Stuart, the Stuart light tank fulfilled the traditional cavalry role for American and Allied armored forces throughout World War II. Of the over 20,000 Stuarts built by 1944, almost 5,000 were the M3A1 variant, which discarded two sponson machineguns and added a redesigned turret and turret basket. Its 37mm main gun and relatively thick armor made
